ICE Detains Migrants in Detroit While 3 Local House Dems Praise the Agency
Downtown Detroit saw a small protest around deportations on Wednesday afternoon while House Dems "thank" ICE and join MAGA House Resolution
On Wednesday afternoon in Detroit, a group of protesters descended on the Patrick V. McNamara Federal Building to bring light to a number of deportations that took place there that morning. Multiple people now face immediate removal from the country despite trying to use the legal immigration process.
Five Venezuelan immigrants showed up for asylum hearings at Detroit’s federal courthouse — and were detained on the spot after having their protected status suddenly revoked, reportedly without explanation.
According to People’s Assembly, a political action group in Detroit, multiple people arrived at the McNamara Building for routine immigration hearings. Representatives from People’s Assembly sat in on the court cases and say that 20+ cases were heard and at least five people were detained afterwards. Those who were arrested were hurried off to ICE detention centers and now await expedited removal from the U.S. Of the people detained, People’s Assembly say that the majority of them were Venezuelan, a country that has been singled out by the Trump administration specifically.
This comes on the back of massive protests in Los Angeles over the weekend and with even more planned for the upcoming weekend. The No Kings protests are expected to happen Saturday across the country. The No Kings rally is a national day of protest on June 14th against the rise of authoritarian power, government corruption, and attacks on civil rights.

Three Michigan Democrats Just Signed a GOP Resolution Praising ICE. They Didn’t Have To.
This week, Michigan Representatives Haley Stevens, Shri Thanedar, and Kristen McDonald Rivet signed onto a Republican-led resolution that explicitly praises ICE and encourages deeper cooperation between local and federal law enforcement, even as the agency is under fire for harsh deportation tactics and human rights abuses.
The resolution, H.Res. 488, was introduced by Colorado Republican Gabe Evans in response to an antisemitic attack in Boulder. On its face, the resolution appears to simply denounce hate and condemn antisemitism—something we all agree with. But buried in the text of the second section is a clear endorsement of Trump-era immigration enforcement.
Section 2 of the resolution reads:
“The House of Representatives affirms that free and open communication between State and local law enforcement and their Federal counterparts remains the bedrock of public safety and is necessary in preventing terrorist attacks.”
It continues:
“The House expresses gratitude to law enforcement officers, including U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel, for protecting the homeland.”
Members of Congress had the option to sign onto individual sections of the resolution. In other words, they could’ve supported the part condemning antisemitism without endorsing ICE. But Stevens, Thanedar, and McDonald Rivet chose to back the entire resolution—including the language praising ICE and encouraging local agencies to collaborate more closely with them.
This comes at a time when ICE is facing protests across the country for detaining asylum seekers, fast-tracking deportations, and targeting immigrant communities—including right here in Michigan.
Let’s be clear: House resolutions like H.Res. 488 don’t carry the force of law. But they send a powerful message about what Congress prioritizes and who it stands with.
By signing this resolution, these three Michigan Democrats have signaled that they’re willing to align with ICE’s abusive tactics and the GOP’s fear-mongering agenda, even when they didn’t have to.
Michigan Reps. Debbie Dingell and Rashida Tlaib voted against this. Rep. Hillary Scholten abstained.
Voters deserve to know who’s standing up for immigrant communities—and who’s siding with an agency built on family separation, surveillance, and fear.

And this is why I am voting for Mallory McMorrow for Senate and NOT Haley Stevens. I'm so tired of Haley Stevens' "moderate" stances. That she screwed around and ran Andy Levin out of politics still angers me. And Elissa Slotkin is earning my ire with her "moderate" stances on the sewer clown's nominees. As for Gary Peters... don't let the door hit ya, dude.
